New developments in Towson will have to provide bike racks under legislation approved Monday by the Baltimore County Council.

Bicycling advocates had supported the bill by Councilman David Marks and Council Chairman Tom Quirk as a way to encourage cycling and reduce traffic congestion, especially at a time when several large new developments are planned for downtown Towson. Council members also adopted a resolution by the same councilmen asking the county’s Pedestrian and Bicycle Advisory Committee to study the possibility of creating a bike sharing program.
